Running the City – Vauxhall and Battersea Park Loop

Edition 0002 of the Running the City series, where I take you through a running route in London. I’m getting more used to wearing my GoPro and keeping the camera steady, so the video looks much better this time!

Key Information

Start: Vauxhall Park (Fentiman Road Side)

End: Vauxhall Park (Station Side)

Distance: 9km

Difficulty: Easy/Moderate

Walkthrough and Waypoints

Riverside Gardens (0-1km)

The run begins at Vauxhall Park at the entrance on Fentiman Road, run through the park heading east and exit running towards Vauxhall Station. Once you have reached the station (cross the lights and head north under the rail bridge), join the bridge approach on the left-hand side and take the first exit heading west along the river towards Battersea, on your left you will see a few benches and planters looking out to the river.

Nine Elms Lane (1-2km)

Keep the river on your right, only leaving the path along the river when forced to do so. Join the main road briefly, before heading back towards the river at the first right-turn. Run past the docked boats until you reach a dead end and turn left, head back towards the main road and turn right. You should see New Covent Garden Market on your left.

Battersea Power Station (2-3km)

Turn right onto Pump-house lane, following the path towards the Power Station. Keep running through the new development until you reach the river.

Battersea Park Rose Garden (3-4km)

Join the park at the entrance by Chelsea Bridge, once in the park you can either run straight on the path towards the Pagoda (makes an 8km run) or turn left onto Carriage Drive East, turning right when you approach the Rose Garden.

Battersea Park Peace Pagoda (4-5km)

Head back towards the river and join the main running path, you will see the Pagoda on your left hand side as you run towards the exit on the west side by Wandsworth Bridge.

Chelsea Embankment (5-6km)

Exit Battersea Park and cross Wandsworth Bridge, turning right as you exit the bridge and going down the steps to join the Embankment. Keep heading east.

Grosvenor Road (6-7km)

Keep on the path heading east, eventually passing Chelsea Bridge.

Pimlico Gardens (7-8km)

Continue on Grosvenor Road heading towards Vauxhall, eventually you will see a small park on your right hand side.

Vauxhall Park Approach (8-9km)

The final part of Grosvenor road ends with a right turn towards Vauxhall Bridge. Cross the bridge, run past the station and head back under the rail-bridge to finish!
